DUBREUIL – SQUATTERS
Le Parlement August 10th, 2010Sitting of tuesday 10th august 2010
(No. 1B/465)
Mr E. Guimbeau (First Member for Curepipe & Midlands) asked the Minister of Housing and Lands whether, in regard to the squatters of Dubreuil, evicted on 27 July 2010, he will state –
(a) if a social inquiry has been carried out into the personal circumstances of each family and, if so, when, and
(b) the immediate assistance that is being provided to the hardship cases identified.
Reply: A list of 46 squatters at Dubreuil has been forwarded since 29 July 2010 to the Ministry of Social Security, National Solidarity and Reform Institutions and the Ministry of Social Integration and Economic Empowerment for a social enquiry report on each of the families. The exercise is underway and as soon as it is completed, a decision would be taken in respect of the hardship cases.
In the meantime, 23 families have been provided with a temporary shelter at the ex-Dubreuil Tea Factory building after it has been cleaned and flushed and provided with the basic amenities.
